Fact 15

The things you do for love…

All of my life, I’ve been allergic to cats. When I was dating my wife, it really wasn’t much of an issue that she had two cats, because they both lived outdoors, and I just didn’t touch them. After we got married, my wife wanted a cat, but our landlords wouldn’t allow it.

Fast forward two years to when we buy our house. Since we’re now the landlords, my wife starts asking for a cat. Initially I resist on the grounds of my allergies. However, after a year of her asking, and with her birthday coming up, I finally gave in and let her go pick out a kitten, which we named Zoey. We’d already made arrangements for someone else to take the cat in the event that my allergies couldn’t take it, and so decided to give her a trial run.

In the beginning, Zoey bothered me a bit, but not too much, so we decided to keep her. As a kitten, Zoey was a lot of fun, she loved to sit on my shoulder, like a pirate’s parrot. But, as she got bigger, that started to get a little difficult for the both of us.

Most of my life I’ve hated cats, and couldn’t stand them, but now, I’m still not a fan (of other people’s cats). I will admit to liking “Zoeys” though. People that come over to our house may not agree, but she’s a very sociable cat - but only to us - she tends to hiss at visitors, and she’s been really good with the baby, gradually allowing Brooklynn to get a little closer to her over time, and now even allowing Brooklynn to pet her from time to time.

Who knew a cat could actually be fun?

So yeah… I’m cheating a bit - I had this post written, but forgot to put it online, so I ruined my streak of posting these each day - I’m cheating a bit by tweaking the timestamp though so it’s listed on the correct day.
