Fact 14

Since I’ve decided that I wanted to lose weight, I haven’t really been able to pack the food down in my gut like I used to. Which, actually is a good thing. But there was a time in my life where eating as much as possible wasn’t really an issue.

A few years back, on one of my days off as a missionary, my friends and I decided to have an eating contest at an all-you-can-eat pizza place.

The great thing about a lot of brazilian pizza places is that the pizza is served rodizio style - meaning that you stay at your table, and there are a series of servers that go around the restaurant stopping at each table with a different type of pizza. If you’ve ever been to one of those brazilian steakhouses with the never-ending meat, just imagine one of those, but with pizza. The great thing about this is that you never have to get up!

The bad part is, you never have to get up.

As a result, it’s much easier to pack in the pizza because you won’t expend any energy in getting up and walking around for the pizza. Or you don’t have to wait for any, since a new slice will come over every couple of minutes.

We were having a lot of fun that day, just packing in the various types of pizza, making a mark on our score sheets with each slice eaten, when we’d realized we’d been there for a couple of hours. When we finally decided to call it quits, because we’d reached the point where even looking at one of us cross-eyed might have made someone hurl. After counting up the final totals of slices eaten, I’d realized that I’d eaten the equivalent of three large pizzas. We waddled back to our apartments, and ended up sleeping most of the day trying to recover. It was fun, but not something I’d ever do again, or suggest that anyone try themselves.

The sad part of this story? I didn’t win - that “prize” went to the guy who downed over 4 and a half pizzas.
