Last night as I was on my way to a class I’m taking, I was rear-ended while waiting at an intersection. The light had just barely turned green and as soon as I had started moving, I was hit from behind by a Dodge Dakota. Apparently, the guy in the Dakota thought that I was moving a lot faster than I really was.

Luckily, no one was hurt. That’s the important thing.

Once we moved off of the road, we started to survey the damage, and one thing was clear - in a fight between a ‘94 Bronco and an ‘06 Dakota, the Bronco won. I haven’t heard back from his insurance company yet, so I haven’t got a full estimate for the repairs, but so far, I for sure need a new rear bumper, and some work on a fender where the bumper curled up and hit it. The Dakota on the other hand… he’s going to need a new front bumper, hood, front fenders for both sides, and some work on the driver door. (It was binding a bit when you tried opening it.

I realize that new cars are designed to absorb more of the impact by crumpling up a bit more, but it’s kinda nice driving something that feels like I’m driving a tank, and only suffers minimal damage like I did. I had considered driving my little Honda Civic earlier that evening, but since it was out of gas, and I was feeling too lazy to fill it up, I took the Bronco. I’m glad that I did. I’m thinking that I could be telling a lot different story right now had I been in the Civic. I’d post some photos, but it was just too dark to get anything with my phone’s camera.

Another thing I learned last night is that life can really imitate art. Ever see the episode of the Simpsons where someone places a call to 911, and is immediately put on hold? Yup. Happened to me last night. Luckily, I wasn’t in the process of being murdered, because I was on hold for almost two minutes.

Now… if I can only think of a way to convince the insurance company that the impact faded the paint on the roof and vaporized a lift kit that would need to be reinstalled…
