I'm currently employed as a Senior Flash Developer at mediaRAIN. However, any views, comments, opinions, etc. are my own, and do not reflect the opionions or views of mediaRAIN.
Since the level cap on the Call of Duty 4 beta was raised today, I took a break during lunch to play a few games, and see if I could level up a bit.
I managed to level up to 22, completing a few challenges along the way. Before I quit, I decided to check the leaderboards, and was shocked by what I saw:
Here’s hoping they don’t screw this up - apparently Lucasarts has announced that it’s Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be coming to the Wii.
Since day 1 of the Wii’s motion-sensing controllers having been revealed, there has been a collective sound of people making lightsaber noises, praying that the Wii would have enough midi-chlorians to be able to wield a lightsaber. Now, it sounds like that might be happening next spring.
Until then, if you’re on a Mac, and have a WiiMote - you should be able to kill some time with WiiSaber.
I just noticed this new feature of Google Maps over the weekend - you can now customize the directions Google provides, simply by dragging the provided route.
Last weekend, my wife & I decided to take our daughter to the zoo. The last time I’ve been to the zoo being a field trip back in elementary school, I needed some directions, so of course I went to Google. Just by tracing my cursor over the route, I noticed this slick little feature. Read the rest of this entry »
If you’re a Flex dev, and haven’t checked out FlexExamples, you need to.
Run by Peter deHaan, each day he posts several simple code examples ranging from skinning components to manipulating Strings. The great thing is that each example is fairly short, and to the point. No long-winded explanations, just a short explanation, followed by sample code.
How is Peter stalking me? For the last two weeks, it seems like every time I run into an issue with my code where I’m stumped, and am having problems finding a solution online, within about 15 minutes my RSS reader pops up with a new post from Peter, that contains the solution to my problem.
Seriously Peter, where are you hiding? My cube isn’t that big.
Twitter Blocks is a kind of interesting way to visualize Twitter. It’s a Flash app that loads a timeline of tweets and arranges them in a 3D grid. It looks like it was launched about two weeks ago, and is a joint project between the folks at Twitter and Stamen Design. Read the rest of this entry »
For a new AIR project I’ve been working on I wanted to include a chromatic tuner as a feature. That would be awesome, right?
While working on this feature, I’ve been doing some research into how exactly you even go about determining pitch using code, and have been playing with the SoundMixer.computeSpectrum() method lately. Unfortunately, that’s not looking like it’s going to be a possibility, as apparently the sound info from a microphone or line input isn’t available to the SoundMixer.
Because sound data from a microphone or from RTMP streams do not pass through the global SoundMixer object, the SoundMixer.computeSpectrum() method will not return data from those sources.
Bummer.
Hopefully this can be changed in future versions of the Flash Player.
Well, I got tired of my blog design again… so here we are at version 5. (I think - it could be 4 or 7. I don’t count so well.)
The biggest change is a change in location. The blog is now at blog.joshbuhler.com. If you’re reading this, you found your way ok. I’ve setup some redirects, so hopefully folks should be able to find what they’re looking for.
Also, when migrating posts, it looks like I lost the comments for the last few posts. Sorry! Don’t worry - if you commented looking for a Pownce invite, I sent them all out, and I’m now out of invites.
Let me know what you think, and hopefully I can get the rest of the site online soon.
